Are we ready to make the jump to integrate augmented reality with drone systems?

Today’s guest believes we are, and his company has developed the first app that introduces this concept.  Dan Burton is Co-Founder and CEO of DroneBase, a large network of drone pilots, highly engaged by streams of commercial and creative activities, creating value for the new economy. In addition to providing a platform for drone operators to undertake paid and training missions, DronBase recently released a first of it’s kind augmented reality platform to enable users to create whatever they imagine in open airspace. This could be a drone race course, giant works of art or waypoints for client missions. In this edition of the Drone Radio Show, Dan talks about DroneBase, the company’s technology based solutions and the promise that augmented reality holds in achieving positive ROI.

Can drones be used to help our understanding of war zones and conflict areas?

If you asked today’s guest, she would offer a resounding YES! Gail Orenstein has been a global photojournalist and documentary photographer for 25 years. She’s originally from Mystic, Connecticut but has lived in London for 20 years now. Her work has taken her to over 71 countries, some of them are the most conflicted regions in the world including Syria, Iraq, Eastern Ukraine, Central Africa and Central America. Her photos have been published extensively around the world. In 2016, Gail started using drones in covering stories of conflict areas. She quickly learned the power of drones to capture and tell compelling stories and she made the full transition from a photojournalist to dronelist. In this episode of the Drone Radio Show, Gail talks about her 25 year history as a photojournalist, how she began using drones and how the technology has opened a new passion for telling stories.

AAUVSI is the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of unmanned systems and robotics. Is there a right way to view whales and other marine life with a drone?

Today’s guest believes there is, and she’s making it her mission to spread the word.  Alicia Amerson is a marine biologist, drone pilot and instructor, and marine conservation and policy consultant. She is also the founder of AliMoSphere, a start-up company dedicated to protecting our ocean heritage with science, partnerships and technology.

In this edition of the Drone Radio Show, Alicia talks about efforts to educate pilots on how best to fly drones so as not to disturb or cause harm to natural wildlife. She also talks about the beneficial applications of drones in studying or collecting data on marine mammals. Can A Drone Design A Better Pool?

Perhaps not just yet, but according to today's guest, they definitely speed up the process and save a lot of time and money.  Jim Wolfe is a pool designer from Chesterfield, Missouri. His company, Azpoolz, is a premium pool and spa design concept studio. He designs hundreds of pools every year. In 2017, Jim began using a drone to streamline the process of creating 3D models of his pool designs. By contracting with on-line drone pilot platforms, like drones.io and upsonder.com, Jim was able to extend in drone design services nationwide. For that question, we turn to Michael Read, founder of SkyBase.aero, a full, end-to-end drone services company in Christchurch, New Zealand. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science, an Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence, is an associate member of the New Zeland Institute of Mangement and is an Upper Freeman in the Honorable Company of Air Pilots. He has extensive experience in aviation, start-up business expertise, testing and evaluation, a  nd experience with Full Flight simulators. Are you up to date with the proposed FAA rulemaking and potential legislation on drones?

Don’t worry, because today’s guest is going to give us the details.  Diana Marina Cooper is the Senior Vice President of Policy & Strategy at PrecisionHawk, a commercial drone and data services company. Prior to joining PrecisionHawk, Diana developed and led the UAS and Robotics Practice Group at the law firm of LaBarge Weinstein.  Diana is the President of the Small UAV Coalition, an organization that represents leading technology companies engaged in UAS. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Energy Drone Coalition, the Advocacy Committee of AUVSI, and the Board of Unmanned Systems Canada. Diana is also a member of the FAA Drone Advisory Subcommittee.  Diana has testified before Senate Commerce and has briefed the House UAS Caucus on drone policy and regulations. She is one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to UAS policy.  On this edition of the Drone Radio Show, Diana talks about Precision Hawk and their efforts to advance Beyond Visual Line of Flight, the Small UAV Coalition, the Remote ID ARC and she’ll give us an update on the status of proposed federal UAS Rulemaking.

How are drones used in the construction industry?

That’s the question that we explore in today’s show.  Chris Anderson is the CEO of 3D Robotics, founder and chairman of the Linux Foundation's Dronecode Project, and founder of the DIY Drones and DIY Robocars communities. From 2001 through 2012, Chris was the Editor in Chief of Wired Magazine. Before Wired he was with The Economist for seven years in London, Hong Kong and New York. He has led 3DR from a start-up, to drone manufacturer and now to drone services company. That’s the question that we explore in today’s show.  Paul Wheeler is part of the Technology Advancement Team at the Utah Dept. of Transportation. There he has served in many roles, including the Lead UAS Coordinator, survey technology advisor, lead of the 3D visualization group, Cadd support specialist, and construction surveyor. He is an instrument rated private pilot and has helped multiple flight schools develop interactive training for their programs and is working to fully implement the UAS program within the Utah Department of Transportation. Have you ever wondered what goes into training first responders on using drones?

Today's guest on the Drone Radio Show has been designing such programs for some time now, and he has some great insights.
